Cumberland Hotel

The Cumberland Hotel is one of Eastbourne’s Premier hotels, commanding a wonderful position on the seafront overlooking the famous flower decked promenade, the bandstand and the pier. The Cumberland offers elegance along with a welcoming relaxed atmosphere. All 74 bedrooms have TV, tea/coffee making facilities. Meals are served in the Wordsworth restaurant where you will find an ambiance of classical elegance. The newly refurbished Durrant Eatery is now open for tea/coffee, lunches and afternoon tea. A lift serves all floors but there are no ground floor rooms. Seaview and balcony rooms are available on request (supplement applies).

Did you know? Adolf Hitler ordered that the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne, should not be bombed just in case he wanted to stay there after he had conquered the town.

Excursions

Lewes - Surrounded by chalk cliffs, the town of Lewes is dominated by the remains of a Norman castle. Its medieval streets are home to numerous contemporary galleries, bookshops, boutiques and antique centres as well as many restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Worthing - We travel via Beachy Head to Worthing, a traditional seaside town with a wide-open promenade. We also visit the English Martyrs Church at Goring-by Sea which boasts the world’s only hand painted replica of the Sistine Chapel artwork.

Tenterden & Wine Tasting (June & August only) - Todays excursion takes us to the Carr Taylor Vineyard. You will get to see the vats and presses and learn about their various wine making techniques. You will also receive tea/coffee and cake. (Cost included). Our next stop on today ’s excursion takes us to Tenterden, known as the ‘Jewel of the Weald’, is an intriguing town to explore. With Georgian buildings, tall Victorian houses and tiny cottages as well as a wide range of shops selling crafts, unusual gifts, books and antiques.

COVID-19 Information

At Plimbley Travel, we are doing everything we can to keep our customers safe, below you will  find a list of all the steps we and our partners will be taking so you can relax and enjoy your holiday with peace of mind.

COACH

  • Hand sanitiser will be provided for your use
  • You may be required to board the coach via the front and side doors depending where you are seated.
  • All of our coaches will be vigorously cleaned each day and fully sanitised with a fogging machine at the start and end of each tour. All high traffic areas and all touch points are disinfected numerous times during the day.  Some of our coaches have the benefit of the latest air purification technology.
  • Face coverings/masks will be required (If you do not have these, we can supply you with a reusable face mask for the cost of £1.50each). Please ask for details.
  • Passengers from the same household or social bubble will be allowed to sit together. Single travellers will not be expected to sit next to any other passengers
  • Your seat numbers may change so we can adhere to social distancing as much as possible.
  • You may be required to have your temperature taken with a contactless thermometer.
  • Our booking and reservation systems are fully compliant with “Track & Trace” requirements.

TAXIS

  • We are limiting the number of passengers we can take in one taxi or minibus; face coverings may be required depending on individual companies, but we would advise you to wear them for your own safety.

HOTELS

  • Due to social distancing there will be no entertainment in some hotels.
  • Swimming pools will not be open until further government guidance.
  • Bars and restaurants will be open with tables arranged to adhere to social distancing.

EXCURSIONS

  • Group numbers will be reduced at any one time to some venues where you are in enclosed spaces to allow for social distancing.
  • There might have to be changes to some excursions due to some venues not opening to full capacity. We will however try our best to update you on this as soon as possible.
